Points standings following this weekend.

Hello to everyone in the Berg Brigade,

We had another stellar event racing in Weekend #4 of the Spec MX-5 Challenge South Region Championship at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

My RRG Roofing/Penn Elcom Online Mazda Spec MX-5 Challenge car, prepped by Denton Carden Racing, ran well all weekend long! We started 4th after the qualifying session was cut short due to a car hitting the wall. Actually, everyone only got one flying lap, and once the incident was clear, there was not enough time for anyone to go back out on track and set another lap time.

In the races, we were able to secure a Win on Saturday and a P2 finish on Sunday. On Saturday, it was a pretty straightforward race. I made my way up to the top spot with a few laps remaining.

While leading and going into the last lap of the race, my run through Turn #1 was not the greatest. Grant West in P2 attempted to pass me around the outside of Turn #3 and briefly took the lead until running a little wide and going off the track, and dropping him back to 3rd.

Once I was out of turn 3, I noticed that Jarett Jones was on my inside going through the esses, and I had to drop down to P2 before regaining the lead with a late-braking move going into Turn 10. From here on out, I was able to maintain the lead through Turn #12 and win the race!

On Sunday, I had to work twice as hard during the race! On the first lap, another driver made a mistake, leading to contact with my car, which dropped me back to 8th place. I was pushing all race long, constantly working with other cars to catch the leaders, and was able to fight for the lead coming to the final lap, but I was just a bit too far back to challenge for the win.

Overall, it was a great weekend, and I would like to thank all of my competitors for such great racing on the track and for being just as much fun off the track as well.

Something I would like to point out is on both days, all top 3 drivers live in the State of Georgia. (MyselfGrant West, and Jarrett Jones). In my words, it was a “Georgia Boys” 1-2-3 Finish on both days in the Peachtree State!

Onto the next race, which is actually this coming weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park, racing in the F4 U.S. Championship!

Following that weekend, we go to the prestigious Daytona International Speedway for the South Region Finale of the Spec MX-5 Challenge Series.

Cheers!
Alex Berg

The car pictured was not only the car I drove at the shootout but is also the car that I have been racing in the 2022 Spec MX-5 Challenge! This is out of pure coincidence!
