ROKiT British F4 Championship Round #2 Race Report
Weekend #2
May 11th-12th, 2024
Post-event recap
Kent, United Kingdom
Hello Berg Brigade,
As weekend #2 at Brands Hatch ends, I have mixed feelings about the result.
The pace in the Free Practice sessions looked promising, as we displayed top-5 lap times in both sessions.
The #48 Rohde & Liesenfeld / BBC Chartering F4 was all dialed in, but come qualifying, track conditions drastically changed and our setup on the car was not as strong as in free practice.
My fastest lap, although only 3/10ths of a second slower than the pole position time, was only good enough for P14, and my second fastest lap set me starting in P13 for Race #1. The FIA British F4 series is extremely competitive this season. In qualifying the whole field, 22 cars, was separated by less than 8/10ths of a second.
Brands Hatch Indy is a great track to drive on its own; racing is another story.
The Indy circuit is short, fast, and narrow. This makes it very difficult to race/overtake in a car which produces downforce such as the F4. The high-speed corners and short straight make overtaking nearly impossible. After starting P13 in Race #1, I gained two positions off the start to finish P11, just one position shy of scoring a point.
After starting P14 in Race #2 I was tapped in the rear by another car, which caused me to spin and drop to P21. After lap 1, no overtakes were made in the entire Race #2 by any drivers. I finished P17 after gaining some spots from incidents ahead.
Going into Race #3, I was very frustrated with how the weekend was going. I learned from the experiences in the previous races and gained an impressive six spots to finish P8 earning a few points.
It was difficult to be happy with this result, as we had a car to finish in the top 3. But this only stresses the importance of qualifying.
On a personal note, it is great to race alongside the British Touring Car Championship. The crowds are huge. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the hospitality is unmatched.
I am very grateful for the support of my partners, Rohde & Liesenfeld, BBC Chartering, FLS Group, Transcar Projects, OXBO MegaTransport, Marshall Logistics, Atna Pharmaceutical Consulting, Jevitty Life Science and EasyDrift Technologies.
We are back on track at Snetterton Circuit on May 25th-26th.
Watch out for a newsletter next week with some exciting news.
