Alex Berg Brings Home First British F4 Win in Reversed-Grid Thruxton Race

Alex Berg took his maiden British Formula 4 win with a faultless drive in the reversed-grid race at Thruxton.

The Fortec Motorsports driver had to manage two starts and a safety car restart on his way to the victory ahead of Mika Abrahams.

The race was stopped before the end of the opening lap when a mutli-car accident resulted in Jack Sherwood and Zack Scoular being taken out. Berg had made a good getaway from pole and was leading Abrahams and a fast starting Alex Ninovic when the red flags were flown.

The field returned to their original grid positions, meaning Ninovic went down to sixth.

Berg’s second start was as problem-free as the first and he pulled away from the rest of the field. Ninovic had a slower climb up through the order and there was no pressure on Abrahams in second, but the Hitech GP driver could not stick with Berg.

A spin for Chloe Chong late in the race brought out the safety car for a lap, allowing Abrahams to close back onto the tail of the lader. But it wasn’t long before Berg pulled away again and he finished 1.321 seconds ahead.

When the safety car came out, Leo Robinson was third, having held off James Higgins and Ninovic. A wide moment for the JHR Developments driver just after the restart though dropped him back to sixth, alberit still within the fight for third.

Ninovic eventually found a way past Higgins to take the final podium position. He was able to shake the group and was pulling away slightly by the end of the race.

Robinson climbed back up to fourth after a close battle between Hitech’s points leader Deagen Fairclough and Rodin Motorsport’s Higgins caused the pair to make contact and finish fifth and sixth respectively.
