Alex Berg – The Right Stuff
Imagine you are 14 years old, two years away from getting your driver’s license. What is your life like? Do you think about your favorite video game and what’s for dinner, or do you think about racing on the world’s biggest stage?
When your name is Alex Berg, you see yourself driving International Motor Sports Association Prototypes in five years’ time and in the coming year to be racing in the Idemitsu Mazda MX5 Cup. If you’ve seen the movie Ford vs. Ferrari, they were IMSA styled cars. Various cars make up the IMSA series, but one thing they all have in common is they are extremely fast. DPI classes have speeds upwards of 190+ mph, LMP2 has speeds of 170 mph and LMP3 has speeds of 160 mph.
You might think this is just a young man’s fantasy. Think again!
At 14 years old, Alex already has a National Auto Sport Association (NASA) and SCCA full competition race license. He has driven the following racetracks: WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway; Road Atlanta; Eagles Canyon Raceway; Thunderhill Raceway West, two and three-mile; Sonoma Raceway; Buttonwillow Raceway; Willow Spring International Raceway; and Roebling Road Raceway. A few of the cars he’s driven or raced are 2002 Formula Renault 1600, 2007 Mazda MX-5, 1999 Mazda Miata, 1991 Mazda Miata, 2019 Piper Honda F1600, and 2019 Spectrum Honda F1600.
