Hello everyone,

Sometimes things just don’t go your way. In racing, and in regular life.
This weekend, unfortunately, was one of those moments.

Rounds 6 & 7 of the Spec MX-5 Challenge were challenging but offered great learning opportunities.
We had some car setup bugs that we were chasing, which unfortunately could not be 100% solved.

Friday, Test Day:

My Teammate and I were practicing race strategy by dump drafting and swapping places after a few laps. We also worked on Racecraft, Defensive driving, and how to bump drafter quicker!

Saturday:

The Mazda factory team has had a strong year with car set-up and support. Perhaps it was a matter of time before we experienced a set of challenges around the alignment, toe, and more. These challenges provide us with a great learning opportunity. I had to start 4th and was able to battle for third. But in the end, we had to settle for 4th and were able to provide some helpful feedback to the team. We felt Sunday was going to be our day.

Sunday:

Sunday morning, we made a few setup changes on the car, but unfortunately in the warm-up, we could only get 1.5 laps in due to a broken gearbox.
The Mazda Factory Team, Haag Performance did a great job at changing the gearbox on my car in a quick time of 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, the tailgate lift on the back of the trailer broke and we were not able to bring the car back down to the ground in time for the race.

Although this weekend was not the greatest result, everyone at the Mazda Factory Team is determined to do better and will come back strong next time.

A way for me to think of this weekend is a quote from 7-Time F1 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton:

“We win together. We lose together.”
